Politics, lobby & industrial monopoly on food chains

« You have to dare or resign yourself to everything »

Ladies and gentlemen, industrialists, economic, public health, veterinary and environmental policies Investors, lawyers, architects, are you ready to mobilize to free yourself from a bunkered, anti-democratic system which has already won 20 years in wrong solutions the eye. Years ago, an equipment supplier union had declared « no change in our standards » and an investor for his part declared, « a locked market ». Without even talking about the environmental impact, it is about healthy and attractive food for all, fairly remunerated local products, food sovereignty and the attractiveness of jobs and innovation.

The interdependence of the different partners in the food chain makes the actions of the sustainable transition complex and requires calling on the EU funding FoodServiceEurope, the EFSA (European Food Safety Agency) & the CAP (Common Agricultural Policy) where decide food policies.

It is clear that European public policies have as their only interlocutor an international trade in services and equipment in constant growth which falls to them without conditions 👇

FOODSERVICEUROPE (FERCO) – provides valuable information on EU policy initiatives and legislation and informs policy makers on the perspective of the European institutional catering sector”. « Today, we are more committed than ever to meeting the main socio-economic challenges that arise and to stimulating sustainable growth for our industry and for Europe as a whole »

A public-private partnership with dual language little in line with the sustainable precepts described in their guide HTTPS://CONTRACT-CATERING-GUIDE.ORG/WP-CONTENT/UPLOADS/2020/01/EFFAT-FSE_BEST-VALUE-GUIDE_FR.PDF pretending to work at a loss, complaining of a lack of staff whom he drove away and had all their customers sign « a pact to fight against food waste, awareness-raising actions, « dissemination of good practices…. » , as for example barter tables (?), actions on the quantities served in school canteens « the child expresses himself on a small, medium or large portion…; like the Syneg – national union for large kitchen equipment: « We have set up a « participatory » self-service to reduce « overconsumption »… Good practices for everyone, except that 👇

« In collective and commercial catering, food waste is 4x greater than during meals eaten at home and represents (138 g/meal/guest), which tends to show that there are more
constraints that lead to losses and #waste than « non-responsible » behavior. In collective and commercial catering the choice is imposed, it is difficult to adjust the portions to each and very rarely possible to keep what we have not finished

Situations however repeatedly reported in the reports of the Courts of Auditors.
About 6 billion meals each year are delivered throughout Europe under the same conditions of preparation, distribution and consumption, to which must be added the Canadian and USA market, that of the hotel industry and events (same technologies of distribution and equipment (buffets), which represents millions of tons of waste and other impacts on water resources, soil, diversity, agriculture, jobs, public health, Kwh and GHGs…billed, on a one way or another, everyone…

Has the European Commission ceded our gastronomic model to the Anglo-Saxon model, producing obesity and causing us to lose a whole rich gastronomic heritage from the Atlantic to the Middle East via the Mediterranean basin. How does the EU reconcile the anti-monopoly law (art 101 of the treaty), food sovereignty and safety with directive 2014/24/EU and competition in public procurement and prohibition of local products to compete 👇

Like EFFAT, EUROPEAN FEDERATION OF FOOD, AGRICULTURE AND *TOURISM TRADE UNIONS June 2023 « underlines that half of public tenders in Europe are awarded solely on the basis of the lowest price (normal since even system..) which leads to unfair competition and disregard for social criteria

Support for a monopoly that fools everyone obstructs innovation and the refusal to rethink and debate remains a real question mark. The actors contacted with absent subscribers, from contract to contract, from mandate to mandate, harm intellectual property, industry and the economy (hotels, tourism, events lacking distribution concepts) while exercising lobbying activity omnipresent under the caps of sponsors, consultants commissioned experts self-proclaimed « so-called independent » but always anonymous…as was the case many times and in particular during calls for projects organized by: (EAIC, EU agency – Horizon 2010 -2011, (DG Entreprise, industries), Metro agri-food group (Ecole Hotelière Lausanne), Solar Impulse, etc., to whom a wealth of free information is given for months, falling into the hands of a technological watch fixing the barriers at the entrance to the market by peremptory, denigrating, simplistic, casual, stupid judgments, in bad intellectual faith or of a distressing scientific ignorance, requiring neither proofs nor demonstrations, .. even contempt for the opinions of the cooks for whom it would just be a convenience……. but many subsidies are granted to agri-food discoveries that go very well with the industrialization of the system.

Without this dominant attitude, at the time of Covid, meals would have been distributed anywhere. There would be real alternatives, for public markets, consumers, the environment and public health, a response to the diversity of needs and diets, without limitations of vegetables, legumes (other than the essential raw vegetable counters)… no need for an additional subsidy, the costs now hidden allocated to supplies chosen by the cook, without unpredictability due to their fragmentation.

Another example of improper and culpable grants having taken a turn that was not intended for them…those awarded by the EU to the Welsh Development Agency- Wales- UK, on the grounds of “High Growth Business Support Schemes” in which the DTNs had been selected. All the projects all ended in the voluntary bankruptcy of a private company Entrepreneur Action partner of the WDA having taken care of the funds …… the EU washed its hands of it. ..👉 HTTP://www.walesonline.co.uk/business/business-news/entrepreneur-action-goes-into-liquidation-2197266

Certain truths being restored, will the competent authorities want to make the share of transparency on an untouchable food system and a gigantic market protected by conflicts of interest which infringe the laws of free competition while living on the coattails of the general interest.

In 1992, the Earth Summit in Rio, held under the aegis of the United Nations, formalized the notion of sustainable development and that of the three pillars (economy/ecology/social): economically efficient, socially equitable and ecologically sustainable development.
